In class the other day we learned about the supreme court. we read this article and I learned so much about the supreme court and how it really works, contrary to my original beliefs prior to this lecture. the supreme court is centered around the constitution. the key phrase we used in class is the supreme court "interprets the constitution." the supreme court is the backbone for liberty here in the USA, and its important to understand its function and what they serve to do for us.
In 1789 the supreme court was formed by George Washington, and there were originally six justices on the court. that changed to the present day nine justices that serve until they resign or die (they are the longest-serving government officials) it is also important to note they are elected by the government and not through a normal election like the other two branches (excluding the fact of executive branch administration.) this part of the process is misunderstood by regular citizens because it is not their choice, but rather the government officials that they elected for's choice to make for everyone.
people like to criticize the supreme court justices, when they are being appointed or if their is controversial cases. they like to say their is political bias, and corruption. I find it important that we all should know when a new justice is elected, they vow to not have bias and to uphold the constitution. it is actually common for justices to go against their party views, and interpret the law like they asked.
